CASA Quarterbacks: We are looking for a few good men!

Did you know that 85% of our CASA volunteers are women and yet 50% of the children we serve are boys? This is not uncommon across the country for CASA programs, which has led to some creative marketing and recruiting initiatives. At the National CASA Conference in Seattle this year, we had the opportunity to hear first-hand how Richland County CASA in South Carolina created a highly successful male volunteer recruitment program called "CASA Quarterbacks" in 2007.

Their male advocates have quarterly "tailgate parties" and invite other men to hang out, eat wings, watch football, and learn about CASA. Paige Greene, Executive Director of Richland County CASA and the founder of CASA Quarterbacks, explained that it was a slow start but ten years later, they have had so much success that they no longer need to recruit volunteers anymore; they use their quarterly tailgate parties as celebration events instead.

After hearing of their success and seeing how much fun they have, we decided to give it a try. Our male advocates and board members have formed the founding group and will host the very first CASA Quarterbacks Draft Party on September 14 from 6:00-7:30 at Fifth & Federal Station. Men who might be interested in becoming a volunteer and want to learn more can sign up to attend by clicking here.
